In the last 25 months, TVRA formed two nursery youth groups comprising 20 members both males and females consisting of refugees and host community youth.
We trained the members in group dynamics and plant breeding. The Youth Group members are technically supported by Two resident TVRA staff ( Nursery trainers and Plantation supervisors) who support the members at the nursery sites with the required skills to manage and develop their nurseries into viable enterprises.
The members have built the capacity to raise 160,000 seedlings annually for sale to support Environment partners and individual demands to undertake restoration work in rhino camp refugee settlement. To date, the members have earned a total of 53 million Uganda shillings from the sale of seedlings to meet their basic needs besides gaining skills in nursery management as refugees and host community Youth. As a multiplier effect, individual members have acquired livestock, started personal businesses and other forms of personal development from the income earned through their nursery group’s work. The groups also acquired a Tri-Star Motorcycle for delivering seedlings to their clients.
